Key takeaway: remodeling a kitchen does not mean starting from scratch. With the right planning, you can transform a 15- or 20-year-old kitchen into a modern and functional space in 8 to 12 weeks, without moving out and with a clear budget from the beginning.
When is it time to remodel your kitchen?
Not every kitchen in poor condition needs a full remodel, and not every kitchen that looks old is an urgent case. These are the clear signs that it is time to take action:
The cabinets are more than 15 years old
Drawer slides and hinges wear out, boards swell with humidity and the design no longer matches current trends or your needs. Repairing piece by piece becomes more expensive than replacing.
The layout no longer works
If your family has grown, if the way you cook has changed or if the space feels uncomfortable and inefficient, the original design no longer responds to your current needs.
The countertop is damaged or stained
Worn laminate countertops, broken tile or unsealed granite affect hygiene and property value. A new quartz or granite countertop transforms the kitchen immediately.
You want to increase your property value
The kitchen is one of the spaces with the highest return on investment in a remodel. A modern custom kitchen can increase the resale value of your property by 10% to 20%.
You plan to rent or sell the property
An updated kitchen accelerates the sale or rental process and justifies a higher price. It is one of the most profitable investments before putting a property on the market.
Types of kitchen remodeling
Not all remodels are the same. The scope defines the budget, timeline and level of disruption in your home:
Cabinet-only remodeling
The existing plumbing, electrical and gas installations are kept in place. Only the base cabinets, wall cabinets and countertop are replaced. It is the fastest and most affordable option, as long as the installations are in good condition and the current layout is functional.
Remodeling with layout changes
Installations are modified to change the position of the sink, hood or appliances. It requires minor civil work, which increases cost and timeline, but allows for a completely new and optimized layout.
Complete kitchen remodel
Everything is updated: installations, flooring, tile, ceilings and cabinetry. This is the right option when the kitchen is highly deteriorated or when you want a complete transformation of the space. Higher investment, greater result.
| Type | Scope | Estimated time | Approx. investment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cabinets only | Cabinets + countertop | 8–10 weeks | $45,000–$150,000 |
| With redistribution | Cabinets + countertop + installations | 10–14 weeks | $120,000–$250,000 |
| Complete remodel | Entire space | 14–20 weeks | $200,000–$400,000+ |
Timelines include design, manufacturing and installation. On-site installation takes only 2–3 days. The rest of the time is workshop manufacturing, so your home is not under construction during the entire waiting period.
The kitchen remodeling process step by step
At Maga Kitchen, we follow a clear and structured process so you know exactly what to expect at every stage:
Technical visit and diagnosis
An advisor visits your home to evaluate the condition of the installations, take exact measurements and understand your needs. This service is free. It is essential not to skip this step: a quote without a technical visit cannot be accurate.
3D design and quote
We present the full design of your new kitchen in a photorealistic 3D render using the actual selected materials. You can see exactly how it will look before approval. The quote is itemized by component.
Approval and deposit
Once the design is approved, the contract is signed with committed delivery dates and the deposit is made to begin manufacturing. Everything is documented in writing.
Workshop manufacturing
Each module is manufactured in our Naucalpan workshop with precision technology. During this stage, which lasts 6 to 8 weeks, your current kitchen remains in use. There is no construction work inside your home.
Demolition and installation
Our team removes the previous kitchen and installs the new one in 2 to 3 days. Final cleaning is included. The kitchen is ready to use immediately.
Delivery and final payment
We complete a final walkthrough with you to verify that everything is correct. The remaining balance is paid and the written warranty is delivered.
Kitchen remodeling costs in Mexico 2026
The budget mainly depends on the scope of the remodel, the materials selected and the size of the space. Based on real 2025–2026 projects:
Typical cost breakdown
| Component | Project percentage | Estimated range |
|---|---|---|
| Base and wall cabinets | 50–60% | $40,000–$180,000 |
| Countertop (granite, quartz, etc.) | 20–30% | $15,000–$80,000 |
| Installation and demolition | 10–15% | $8,000–$25,000 |
| Hardware and accessories | 5–10% | $5,000–$20,000 |
What affects the price the most?
The factor that moves the price the most is the countertop. Going from a basic laminate countertop to quartz can represent a difference of $20,000 to $50,000 MXN by itself. The door material —melamine, PVC, high glossy or glass— is the second most relevant factor.

How to plan your kitchen remodel
Define the scope before requesting quotes
Before contacting any manufacturer, answer these questions: are you only replacing the cabinets or also the installations? Do you want to keep the current layout or change it? Will you add new appliances? Having this clear avoids quotes that cannot be compared fairly.
Set a budget with a margin
Define your total budget and include a 10–15% margin for unexpected costs, especially if civil work is required. Projects that include plumbing or electrical modifications often generate additional costs that are not visible at the beginning.
Request itemized quotes
A responsible quote should include: linear meters of cabinetry, material specified by name and supplier, type of hardware, countertop measurements, installation cost and committed delivery time. If you receive only a global number, ask for the breakdown.
Plan your home logistics
Installation takes 2–3 days. During that time, the kitchen will be out of service. Plan how you will handle meals during those days. You do not need to move out, but you do need to clear the work area and protect nearby spaces from dust.
Most common mistakes when remodeling a kitchen
1. Choosing the cheapest provider without verifying quality
The lowest price rarely includes quality hardware, specified materials or post-installation support. A cheap kitchen that needs to be repaired or replaced in 5 years becomes much more expensive than a quality kitchen that lasts 20 years.
2. Not requesting a 3D render before manufacturing
Approving a kitchen without seeing it in 3D is the most frequent and costly mistake. Changing the design once manufacturing has started creates additional costs and delays. A serious manufacturer always presents the render before starting.
3. Ignoring existing installations
A serious technical visit includes reviewing the condition of plumbing, electrical and gas installations. If these systems are old and not considered in the budget, they can create surprises during installation.
4. Choosing materials only by appearance without considering use
Marble is beautiful but porous. High glossy looks premium but shows every fingerprint. Glass is spectacular but requires frequent cleaning. Choose the material based on how you actually cook, not only on how it looks in photos.
5. Not getting a written warranty
Every serious manufacturer provides a written warranty that specifies what it covers, for how long and the process to make it valid. If there is no documented warranty, there is no real warranty.
At Maga Kitchen, we deliver a written warranty for every project. Blum hardware also includes direct manufacturer warranty from Austria.
How to choose the right manufacturer for your remodel
This decision defines the result. These are the criteria we recommend evaluating:
In-house workshop
A manufacturer with its own workshop controls every stage: design, cutting, assembly and installation. Intermediaries that subcontract cannot guarantee precision or timing.
Key criterionReal portfolio
Ask to see finished projects, not only renders. If possible, request references from previous clients to verify delivery times and post-installation quality.
Verifiable3D design included
The 3D render before manufacturing is the industry standard. If the manufacturer does not offer it or charges extra, it is a warning sign.
No extra costDocumented warranty
Ask for the warranty in writing before signing. It should specify what it covers, for how long and the claim process.
In writingMaga Kitchen meets all four criteria: an in-house workshop in Naucalpan with more than 25 years of operation, a real portfolio of projects in Mexico City and the central region, 3D render included in every quote and written warranty in every contract. View completed projects →
